Hobbs Heirloom® Premium 80/20 Fusible Batting Strips

Hobbs Heirloom® Premium 80/20 Fusible Cotton/Poly Blend Batting Strips are made from our much-loved Hobbs Heirloom® Premium 80/20 Fusible Cotton/Poly Blend Batting.

This product enables you to quickly and easily create bags, totes, rugs, straps, sashing and a whole host of other quilted and sewn projects without frustration – and there’s no clipping or pinning required!

Unlike competitive products, which are made from 100% cotton (which can stretch out of shape or even pull apart), our batting strips are made from our Hobbs Heirloom® Premium 80/20 (Natural) Cotton/ Poly Blend Batting (our MOST popular product!), which won’t stretch out of shape nor easily pull apart.

These strips are also 2 1/4″ in width, making it easy to roll your 2 1/2″ fabric strips around them without this resulting in the batting poking out.

Hobbs Heirloom® Premium 80/20 Fusible Cotton/Poly Blend Batting Strips are manufactured in the same manner as our Hobbs Heirloom® Premium 80/20 (Natural) Cotton/ Poly Blend Batting – the base batting is lightly bonded and needle-punched for exceptional strength and durability, and it’s machine-washable, once inside your project (and who doesn’t love that?!).

Hobbs Heirloom® 80/20 Fusible Batting Strips have an additional water-soluble, fusing medium applied to both sides of the batting strips, enabling quilters and sewers to easily adhere their fabric strips to the batting strips in one quick pressing. And, because the fusing medium used in making these strips is water-soluble, these batting strips become as soft and supple as our Hobbs Heirloom® Premium 80/20 (Natural) Cotton/ Poly Blend Batting once the finished project in which they’re placed is washed.

Watch as Stephanie Hackney, Director of Sales & Marketing for Hobbs Craft & Retail Division, explains the benefits of Hobbs Fusible 80/20 Batting and how to use it.

how to use Hobbs Fusible 80/20 batting as a bag stabilizer!

If desired, the quilter or sewer may choose to use only one side of the fusible batting strips, in which case a piece of parchment paper or a non-stick mat should be placed under the side which will NOT be fused so it doesn’t stick to the ironing surface.

To fuse the Hobbs Heirloom® Premium 80/20 Fusible Cotton/Poly Blend Batting Strips to your fabric, set your DRY iron to the appropriate temperature for your fabric and let your iron get nice and hot.

Then, press your fabric strips onto your batting strips (without moving the iron while pressing!).DO NOT use steam in your iron – remember, the fusing medium is water soluble and if you get the strips wet they won’t stick!

Press in each spot for approximately 5-7 seconds (test for adhesion by letting a pressed area cool before tugging on the fabric – if it’s adhered, continue; if it’s not, increase the amount of pressing time).

Once you have pressed your fabric to the batting strips, allow your paired strips to cool completely. Should you find wrinkles or creases, you can gently lift the fabric away from the batting, then smooth it back down and again press it in place – you can make these adjustments 1-2 times before the fusing medium will no longer adhere the fabric strips to the batting strips.

Hobbs Heirloom® Premium 80/20 Fusible Cotton/Poly Blend Batting Strips are recommended for use with medium or dark fabrics; if using with light-colored fabrics, we suggest you test the batting strips with your chosen fabrics to ensure the color of the batting strips doesn’t ‘dull’ your fabric colors.

These batting strips are wonderful to use when machine sewing or quilting, and close quilting will yield a flat, low-loft appearance, while more space between stitching/quilting will yield a slightly higher loft.

Quilting/stitching should be every 4″ inches, or closer, and quilters may experience shrinkage of 3-5% when projects made with these batting strips are washed.

We recommend quilters spend time learning about Hobbs Heirloom® Premium 80/20 Fusible Cotton/Poly Blend Batting Strips before using them on a project – making samples using these batting strips to see how they needle, how they look under your chosen fabrics and how they launder provides an opportunity to see if these batting strips will deliver your desired results.

Pre-washing is not recommended for this or any of our other quality batting products.
