Hobbs Heirloom Premium Bleached Cotton w/Scrim Batting
Hobbs Heirloom® Premium 100% Bleached Cotton with Scrim Batting is designed for quilters who enjoy using bleached cotton batting and who are seeking extra strength in that batting.
Strong, but also soft (and softer after each washing), Hobbs Heirloom® Premium 100% Bleached Cotton with Scrim Batting is perfect for quilts where a low loft is desired.
This soft and pliable batting is made with very clean, high-grade, bleached, long-staple cotton (which proudly displays the Cotton Incorporated seal) combined with a very thin, polyester scrim (stabilizer) which is needle-punched into the cotton fibers. This scrim provides superior strength to the cotton, and prevents the cotton batting from stretching and distorting as it’s manipulated.
Wondering whether the batting should be used with the scrim facing up or down? That’s a common question! While this is a personal choice, the majority of quilters use this product with the scrim facing down.
Hobbs Heirloom Bleached Cotton Batting w/Scrim is highly recommended for white or very light-colored quilts – the bleached 100% cotton fibers, combined with the white, polyester scrim, provides a very white batting that will keep quilts made with white or light-colored fabrics nice and bright.
Quilters may stitch up to 8″ apart with this batting, providing many more design options! And yes, it’s also machine washable – shrinkage of 3-5% is expected.
We recommend quilters spend time learning about Hobbs Heirloom Bleached Cotton Batting w/Scrim before using it on a project – making samples using this batting to see how it needles, both by hand and by machine, and how it launders provides an opportunity to see if this batting can deliver the desired results.
Pre-washing is not recommended for this or any of our other quality batting products.
