Hobbs Heirloom® Premium 50/50 Bamboo/Cotton Blend with Scrim Batting

Hobbs Heirloom® Premium 50/50 Bamboo/Cotton Blend with Scrim Batting is designed for quilters who prefer batting made with natural fibers, and who’d benefit from the added strength and wider allowable stitch distance that a scrim layer affords.

Strong, but also cuddly and soft (and softer after each washing!), Hobbs Heirloom® Premium 50/50 Bamboo/Cotton Blend with Scrim Batting is perfect for quilts where a low loft is desired.

This soft and drapey batting is made with sustainable* bamboo fibers, combined with cleaned, high-grade, long-staple, virgin cotton, and a light, polyester scrim (stabilizer) which is needle-punched into the battings’ fibers.

This scrim provides superior strength, prevents the batting from stretching and distorting as it’s manipulated, and enables quilting up to 8″ apart, offering you more design options!

Wondering whether this batting should be used with the scrim facing up or down? That’s a common question! While this is a personal choice, the majority of quilters use this product with the scrim facing down, or toward the back of the quilt or project.

Hobbs Heirloom® Premium 50/50 Bamboo/Cotton Blend with Scrim Batting should be paired with light to medium fabrics – if paired with pure white, very light or thin fabrics, the natural (unbleached) may slightly ‘darken’ the fabric – testing with your chosen fabric is always a good idea!

This batting is machine washable (once inside a project!) and shrinkage of 3-5% is expected.

We recommend quilters spend time learning about Hobbs Heirloom® Premium 50/50 Bamboo/Cotton Blend with Scrim Batting before using it in a project – making samples using this batting to see how it needles both by hand and by machine, and laundering a small sample project before choosing it for your project, provides an opportunity to see if this batting can deliver your desired results.

Pre-washing is not recommended for this or any of our other quality batting products.

*The bamboo fibers we purchase for use in producing our Hobbs Heirloom® Premium 50/50 Bamboo/Cotton Blend with Scrim Batting are certified per OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 (which verifies that chemical residues are managed responsibly) and per FSC™ Chain of Custody (which ensures the bamboo wasn’t grown on land cleared of ancient forests, protecting against the monoculture risk).
